Mercari has deployed Chrome Enterprise Premium and Chromebooks in a customer service partner environment, replacing reliance on virtual desktops with browser controls, its enterprise security manager said. The company projects a cost reduction of more than 50% over a three-year period across devices, virtual desktop operations and security licenses.

The controls restrict pasting and file uploads to destinations outside approved business tools. Automatic device enrollment removes manual setup, while consolidating security software reduces operational overhead. Mercari is also using browser policies to enable read-only Gemini in Chrome. The projected savings apply to this environment, rather than the company as a whole.
