A researcher reported obtaining control of an expired nameserver domain used for three e164.arpa country-code zones, giving them control of ENUM DNS responses for Saint Helena, Diego Garcia and Ascension Island.

The researcher said logging later captured hundreds of thousands of ENUM queries, including phone numbers, timestamps and resolver IP addresses, largely for Diego Garcia and Ascension Island. The DNS server returned NXDOMAIN responses rather than routing calls. The researcher said the UK National Cyber Security Centre subsequently took ownership of the domain and the logs were deleted.
