Akamai authorized Jabil on September 24 to buy approximately $1.7 billion of memory components under their existing manufacturing agreement, according to an SEC filing. Jabil makes customized server hardware for Akamai and provides warranty, spare parts and repair services.

Akamai agreed to pay the corresponding supplier invoice amounts. The authorization gives Jabil purchasing authority for components used in Akamai's server manufacturing arrangements; it does not establish that the components have been delivered.
