India is considering a framework that would exempt some high-tech industries from mandatory BIS quality-certification requirements, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said. He said BIS has been asked to develop the framework as the government seeks semiconductor and technology investment. Goyal also said the government has committed $15 billion to Semicon 2.0 and that its first semiconductor fabrication plant is expected in 2028. The framework has not been issued, and the exemptions' scope is not specified.
