Google says the latest versions of all Cloud Storage SDKs now calculate upload checksums by default, closing a gap in detecting data corruption during transmission. A checksum lets the receiving system check whether data changed along the way.

Previously, developers had to calculate and supply a checksum to protect uploads before Google's server-side calculation. The SDKs now supply one when the application does not.

The SDKs also support checking downloaded objects. Partial downloads receive range-specific checksum verification when developers use the SDKs with Google's gRPC API. Customers must update to the latest SDK versions to obtain the new protections.
