Hamburg startup MuRay has raised €7.1M to develop imaging for dense metal parts, including rocket engines and gas turbines. The financing combines a €3.5M private round led by First Momentum Ventures and co-led by Caelora with €3.6M in public funding.

MuRay generates a controlled beam of muons, particles that penetrate dense materials, and uses detectors and AI software to build internal 3D images. The company aims to inspect parts on production lines in minutes rather than hours.

Its first industrial imaging service is planned for 2027 using DESY's existing electron beam in Hamburg. A full-scale system powered by a compact laser-driven accelerator is due in 2029; its first real rocket-engine test is planned for 2027.
