SK hynix plans specialized cores for NAND storage controllers

SK Hynix SSDs Image: Primary
SK hynix plans to spread its Hynix Transaction Processing Unit across NAND products, including next-generation enterprise SSD controllers, Tom's Hardware reported. The small programmable cores would handle repetitive read and write processing, metadata and buffer control, leaving error recovery and storage policies to a traditional Arm CPU. The company claims each core uses about 2.5% of a general-purpose CPU core's power and around 4% of its area. Clusters can idle cores that an operation does not need. The comparison CPU is unidentified, and H-TPU has yet to be proven in an enterprise SSD controller product; no date has been given.
