Casely reannounces power bank recall after fatality, 28 additional incidents
Image: Primary Casely and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission have reannounced a recall of over 429,000 wireless power banks following 28 additional overheating incidents, including one fatality.
The 5,000mAh Power Pods power banks were originally recalled in April 2025 after 51 reports of lithium-ion batteries overheating, expanding, or catching fire, resulting in six minor burn injuries.
New incidents include a serious fire and explosion on a plane and the death of a 75-year-old New Jersey woman who suffered second and third degree burns from an explosion, later passing away from complications.
The recalled devices were sold through Casely's website, Amazon, and other online stores from March 2022 through September 2024 for $30 to $70. They can be identified
Casely is offering free replacements through its website. Consumers must submit a photo of the device's model number and a second photo showing the date and "recalled" written on the power bank.
The company and regulators urge consumers to stop using the recalled power banks immediately and dispose of them at facilities equipped to handle lithium-ion batteries, not in trash, recycling bins, or retail battery boxes.
