Tesla extends Austin Robotaxi rides to 23:00

Tesla extends Austin Robotaxi rides to 23:00 Image: Primary
Tesla has extended its Austin Robotaxi service hours from 22:00 to 23:00, UA.News reported, citing Electrek. Elon Musk said detecting pets in low light remains the main obstacle to operating later, giving the example of gray kittens on gray asphalt. Tesla relies on cameras, which use reflected light and contrast to recognize objects. Electrek noted that Waymo operates around the clock using cameras, lidar and radar; lidar measures objects with laser pulses, while radar uses radio waves. Tesla's service began in June 2025 with orders accepted from 06:00 until midnight. Its new closing time remains one hour earlier than at launch.
