AWS Glue adds external catalog credentials for Iceberg table access

AWS says Glue Data Catalog now lets its analytics services read external Apache Iceberg tables using temporary credentials issued by the external catalog. The feature supports Amazon Athena, EMR, Redshift and Glue, providing another access path alongside a configured AWS IAM role. The credentials apply to an Amazon S3 storage prefix and allow reads only for tables authorized by the external catalog. Lake Formation can further restrict access to particular rows and columns and share external tables across AWS accounts. The feature is available through the console, command line and SDKs in all commercial AWS Regions supporting Glue and Lake Formation.
