GitLab invites early-access requests for source control built for coding agents

GitLab invites early-access requests for source control built for coding agents Image: Primary
GitLab is accepting early-access requests for a source control system designed to handle coding agents' heavy repository traffic. The company says early internal tests completed workloads up to 50x faster, used half the tokens and generated up to 1,000x less network traffic. The design retains the Git protocol while separating repository storage from compute. Object storage holds repository data, and stateless compute nodes serve requests from local caches. Agent interfaces request the files and history needed for individual tasks, reducing repeated full repository clones. GitLab says the system can run on GitLab.com or in self-managed environments, including air-gapped installations. Features recording the instructions and policies behind agent-generated changes remain on its roadmap.
