Denmark reports unauthorized access to records for about 8.8 million people

Denmark reports unauthorized access to records for about 8.8 million people Image: Primary
Denmark's digitalization ministry said on October 5 that unauthorized parties accessed names, addresses and personal identification numbers for about 8.8 million people in the national population register. They used a private company's lawful access to make automated lookups; the register's administration has stopped that access, and police are investigating. The access lasted about 10 days in September. The minister has requested a full security review of the register. The ministry's count includes living and dead people and is not final. Protected names and addresses were excluded, while whether attackers retained or used the data remains unresolved.
