Nathan Lambert and Tom Zick launched Trillium Labs, a nonprofit that plans to publish AI experiment details so outside researchers can study and replicate its work, WIRED reported. The lab has raised an undisclosed sum from Schmidt Sciences, Halcyon Futures and other backers. Its initial focus will be post-training, which adjusts models after their initial training, alongside research into AI contributing to the development of new models. The founders aim to raise $40 to $100 million in total and plan to spend $30 million on training over the next 18 months. Those spending and fundraising figures are targets.
