Google plans shared website AI training preference control for early 2027

Google Web Pages Image: Primary
Google plans to support a shared AI training preference signal in early 2027, allowing website owners to communicate choices to participating providers through one robots.txt rule. Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google intends to adopt the proposal voluntarily while work continues at the Internet Engineering Task Force. Google plans to treat an opt-out using the shared policy token as a restriction on Google-Extended when that crawler is not explicitly specified. Existing company-specific controls will continue alongside the shared signal, allowing publishers to tailor instructions for individual providers.
