Anthropic's compute bill rises to $9.86 billion as discounts offset growth

Anthropic's compute bill rises to $9.86 billion as discounts offset growth Image: Primary
Anthropic's compute and infrastructure expenses rose from $5.56 billion to $9.86 billion, while price reductions and contractual discounts offset approximately $600 million of usage-driven revenue growth, Yahoo Finance reported, citing its amended SEC filing. The quarter included $5 billion of compute under short-term commitments that Anthropic said cost significantly more than comparable multiyear capacity. The expense helped move the company from a $974 million operating profit in the second quarter to a $567 million operating loss in the third. Compute spending includes research, training and internal operations as well as customer service. It therefore does not measure the profit margin on individual Claude requests.
