Cyborg cockroaches demonstrate remote drug-delivery task

Researchers at the University of Queensland and the University of New South Wales demonstrated cockroaches fitted with electrodes, microchips and either a camera or an injection mechanism for simulated disaster response. In a test sequence, a remotely controlled insect passed three checkpoints and injected a simulated target. The study reported injection success of about 95% within 150 millimeters of the target and 72% for the full sequence. Electrical stimulation of antennae and rear sensory organs controlled direction and pace, while a spring-and-chemical system deployed the syringe.
