Pacific Fusion breaks ground on New Mexico demonstration facility

Pacific Fusion has broken ground on an Albuquerque, New Mexico facility intended to test its pulsed-power fusion approach and target net facility gain by 2030. The demonstration system will use 156 pulser modules to generate coordinated electrical pulses that create a magnetic field around a fuel target and compress it until fusion occurs. The company said the facility can conduct a handful of shots per day. It said a commercial power plant would need about one shot per second and would need to generate roughly five times more energy than the demonstration system.
