Google Public Sector says a robotic proof of concept developed with NASA achieved an initial 85% success rate locating and moving a medical bag in early laboratory tests. The system uses the open-source Pi0 model to connect language instructions with physical movements, with cameras helping it locate objects. Google says it fine-tuned the 4-billion parameter model in 2.5 hours using cloud computing and demonstrated that the resulting models could run locally on compact edge devices. The work targets spacecraft that cannot depend on continuous Earth connections; broader logistics and medical assistance remain development goals.
