Amazon to invest up to $25 billion in AI firm Anthropic

Amazon to invest up to $25 billion in AI firm Anthropic Image: Primary
Amazon is strengthening its ties with artificial intelligence company Anthropic through a new investment deal that could total $25 billion. The technology giant announced it will invest $5 billion in Anthropic immediately, with the potential for up to $20 billion in additional payments if certain milestones are met. This follows Amazon's initial $4 billion investment in Anthropic in 2023 and a second $4 billion round in 2024. As part of the agreement, Anthropic has committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services technologies over the coming decade. The AI company will also secure up to 5 gigawatts of current and future chip capacity for training and powering its models using Amazon's custom Trainium silicon. The partnership will bring Anthropic's Claude platform to AWS customers within the AWS portal, eliminating the need for separate credentials.
