eBay clarifies amateur-radio exemption from new listing restrictions

eBay clarifies amateur-radio exemption from new listing restrictions Image: Primary
eBay has clarified that radios operating exclusively on amateur frequencies remain exempt from its new FCC identification requirements for listings, ARRL reported. The marketplace introduced restrictions in response to FCC rules that make online marketplaces share legal responsibility for unauthorized radio devices offered for sale. Equipment subject to FCC authorization must have its FCC ID submitted to the marketplace and displayed in its listing. Exemptions cover existing posts, small sellers and used equipment. Radios capable of transmitting outside amateur bands still require certification; the FCC has not changed the underlying equipment authorization rules.
