Estuary launches with $93 million Series A for kidney gene therapies

Estuary launches with $93 million Series A for kidney gene therapies Image: Primary
Estuary Biotherapeutics launched Friday with a $93 million Series A led by RA Capital Management to develop gene therapies for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, BioPharma Dive reported. Investors included Alphabet's GV and Biogen's early-stage investment arm. Its two lead programs aim to restore polycystins, proteins whose disruption causes kidney-damaging cysts. EST-201 would deliver a functional PKD2 gene, while EST-101 would supply useful portions of the protein produced by PKD1. Estuary expects human testing in 2027 and 2028, respectively. The proposed one-time treatments would be administered locally; delivering the genetic material to the kidneys remains a central development challenge.
