EFF and ACLU demand records over Marin license plate data sharing

EFF and ACLU demand records over Marin license plate data sharing Image: Primary
EFF and the ACLU of Northern California sent the Marin County Sheriff's Office a demand letter and public records request Thursday over alleged sharing of license plate location data with federal and out-of-state agencies. They argue that the access violated California law and a 2022 settlement. The groups cited audit logs obtained by Point Reyes Light showing 254,131 instances of sharing in November 2024. They are seeking a database audit, new compliance protocols and assessment of employee penalties. The new action is a demand for records and corrective measures.
