President Donald Trump said Wednesday that new large data centers must generate their own electricity and give or sell excess power to local communities or the grid. In a Truth Social post, he described the requirement as his mandate and urged companies to offer residents a financial dividend to win support for projects. Trump said the policy is intended to prevent consumers from absorbing the cost of powering the AI industry. His call for community payments comes as data center projects face opposition over their power and water demands.
