Japan approved TSMC's revised Kumamoto semiconductor plans and authorized subsidies of up to JPY645.15 billion, DIGITIMES reported. The changes replace the second fab's proposed 6nm and 12nm production with 3nm logic chips. The smaller facility is planned to produce 6,000 wafers monthly, with first shipments in the fourth quarter of 2028. The first fab will drop 12/16nm production and focus on 22/28nm and 40nm output. The plans include commitments to supply Japanese customers for at least 10 years.
