xAI is using eight converted jet-engine turbines to power a Mississippi data center under state permits, Tom's Hardware reports. Each turbine can produce up to 50 megawatts of electricity. ProEnergy converts the unused General Electric turbines for power generation as data-center demand outpaces traditional utilities' ability to supply electricity. The Southern Environmental Law Center has challenged Mississippi's approval. The permits allow a 25% higher limit for volatile organic compounds, and the group alleges inadequate assurances on emissions standards and undercounting of projected emissions.
