Meta's Muse maps users' relationships and behavioral responses, TIME finds

GettyImages-2297134397.jpg Image: Primary
Meta's Muse assistant updates dossiers on its 4 million users and people they mention every hour, a TIME analysis of its internal instructions found. The files map relationships and record which prompts influence users, including people who do not use Muse. Meta says the data is not shared with its advertising system or other Muse agents, but de-identified learnings improve the overall product. Encryption intended to prevent company access is planned for later this year and is not yet available. Users can export files and ask Muse to forget specific information. That request does not necessarily erase the original message, and instructions tell the assistant not to point this out.
