Marvell announces $115 billion Lumentum acquisition

Marvell announced plans to acquire optical-component maker Lumentum for $115 billion, SiliconANGLE reported. Lumentum shareholders would receive 4.5 Marvell shares for each share they own. Marvell expects the transaction to close in the first half of 2028. The deal would bring a supplier of lasers, optical amplifiers and optical circuit switches into Marvell's networking business. Lumentum also makes lasers for co-packaged optics, which connect servers to networks without the separate transceivers usually required. Marvell CEO Matt Murphy would lead the combined company. The future of Lumentum's industrial cutting and welding laser portfolio remains unclear.
