BYD's Xiao Di humanoid robot arrives this month, according to company teaser

BYD's Xiao Di humanoid robot arrives this month, according to company teaser Image: Primary
Chinese automaker BYD said it will unveil its Xiao Di humanoid robot in early August, according to a company teaser sent to several Chinese media outlets. The announcement follows an online leak late last month that revealed the robot's development. The teaser includes the line, "At the beginning of August, a new friend wants to meet you." Leaked images showed a cartoonish design, while newer images present a more utilitarian appearance. BYD said the robot will work inside its dealerships as an assistant to welcome visitors, explain electric vehicles and conduct product demonstrations. Previous details indicate the robot stands 162 centimeters tall with a carrying capacity of 1 kilogram. The company said it will be production-ready rather than a prototype, though BYD has not stated whether the robots will be sold commercially. U.S. customers are unlikely to see the robot due to government restrictions on Chinese humanoid robotics citing supply chain vulnerabilities.
