Google is understood to be in talks to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, pairing capital with reserved infrastructure at a massive scale. The reported Google-Anthropic deal pairs capital with a 5 GW compute commitment, shifting how AI infrastructure is financed and allocated. According to reports, the deal includes an initial $10 billion investment, with up to $30 billion tied to performance targets. Separately, Google would supply up to 5 GW of computing power to Anthropic over five years. The companies have not publicly confirmed these terms. Sid Nag, president and chief research officer at Tekonyx, an advisory firm, said hyperscalers are competing for AI developers by providing infrastructure directly, even when competing at the model layer. Nag noted that demand from model developers is already outpacing available capacity, creating an opening for hyperscalers to secure long-term commitments.
