Image: Primary Gemini's desktop app can now understand your screen through voice control. Google announced a new voice shortcut for the Gemini app on macOS that lets users press and hold the fn key to talk to the AI from any app without switching windows.
The feature allows Gemini to rewrite documents, polish emails, and summarize notes based on what is on the screen. Voice dictation is also being improved to automatically remove filler words like umm and ahs to produce cleaner text. The new voice experience is rolling out globally to all Gemini app users on macOS in English, with support for additional languages expected later this year.
Screen-aware reasoning remains optional and can be turned off if users prefer not to have Gemini analyze their open windows.
