AWS expands ECS consolidation across instances and Spot capacity

AWS says Amazon ECS Managed Instances can now consolidate workloads across multiple underused instances and apply the same process to Spot capacity. The changes apply automatically to existing and new capacity providers in all AWS Regions at no additional cost. Previously, optimization evaluated each instance separately, limiting savings when customers allowed only a narrow range of instance types. The new approach repacks tasks across several instances and starts replacement tasks before stopping old ones. For Spot workloads, ECS first verifies that replacement capacity is available.
