Amazon guidelines reject token consumption as an engineering target

Amazon logo Image: Primary
Amazon's engineering guidelines published October 27 tell managers and developers to assess AI through long-term outcomes rather than token consumption or adoption counts, Tom's Hardware reports. The guidance targets employees inflating AI usage to appear productive and warns that isolated activity targets can increase compute costs and software complexity. Managers can still examine usage data alongside other indicators, including comparing teams using AI most and least. Engineers who find that current tools do not benefit their work can explain those limitations without treating low usage as a failure. Amazon says it has not imposed employee token caps.
