NIST released its official roadmap for replacing quantum-vulnerable cryptographic algorithms, giving federal agencies, industry partners and standards organizations a transition plan. NISTIR 8547 identifies affected algorithms and explains how they will be phased out. The report supports existing federal migration targets: 2035 broadly, with high-value assets and high-impact systems required to migrate by 2030 for key establishment and 2031 for digital signatures. NIST says organizations must consider their entire cryptographic supply chain. It also accommodates combining conventional and post-quantum cryptography, an approach that demands more computational resources.
