Databricks acquires spreadsheet startup Row Zero
Image: Primary Databricks announced Thursday that it has acquired Row Zero, a startup whose cloud spreadsheet handles more than 1 million live rows. Its finance team had been using Row Zero alongside Genie, Databricks' AI agent for asking questions about company data in natural language.
Databricks plans to combine the spreadsheet interface with its data platform so analysts can work with data through familiar cells and formulas while keeping it in Databricks' cloud system. The purchase terms were not disclosed. Row Zero raised $10 million in May 2025, but that earlier fundraising figure does not establish the price Databricks paid.
