SpaceX and Reflection AI signed a compute agreement worth up to $6.3 billion, according to Reuters and other reports. The Elon Musk-led company will provide Reflection AI with access to Nvidia GB300-powered infrastructure to train and run advanced AI models. Reflection AI will reportedly pay $150 million per month starting July 1, 2026, with the contract running through 2029, though either side can end the deal after an early period with notice. The deal marks SpaceX's expansion into selling AI compute capacity as a cloud provider. Reflection AI, founded in 2024 by former DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, describes itself as building frontier open intelligence. The startup raised $2 billion in 2025 at an $8 billion valuation in a round led by Nvidia, according to Reuters. The agreement highlights how compute access increasingly determines which companies can compete in AI development. Reports indicate Google previously agreed to pay SpaceX $920 million a month for AI compute in a larger cloud-style deal. For South African startups and developers, the global compute race may affect tool costs, model choices, and dependence on foreign infrastructure.
