Lilly reports greater weight loss with experimental combination, but more treatment exits

Mounjaro weight loss pen Image: Primary
Eli Lilly reported that its experimental EloraTZP combination produced average weight loss of 23.3% after 48 weeks at the highest dose in a Phase 2b trial, compared with 14.8% for tirzepatide alone. The study involved 367 adults with obesity and type 2 diabetes. The combination adds eloralintide, which mimics an appetite-regulating hormone, to tirzepatide. Gastrointestinal adverse events were more frequent with the combination; up to roughly a quarter of recipients discontinued treatment because of adverse events, versus barely 3% with tirzepatide alone. Lilly plans Phase 3 testing with an optimized dose-escalation schedule. The findings were reported through a press release and have not appeared in a peer-reviewed publication.
