The attacker behind Binance's breach converted about $3.3 billion into digital assets that cannot be frozen and was working to cash them out as traditional currency, blockchain analysts at Elliptic said, as reported by Ars Technica. Binance estimated the hack's total impact at about $6.3 billion and said around $3 billion of affected assets had been frozen. Blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs linked the attack to the North Korean unit TraderTraitor. Binance's initial investigation pointed to a compromised engineer's laptop; subsequent investigation found additional breach points. The exchange has suspended withdrawals and says it reserved over $6.34 billion of company funds to cover the incident, including $5 billion already held in the affected tokens.
