Viasat, Space42 and Terrestar sign satellite interoperability memorandum

Viasat, Space42 and Terrestar sign satellite interoperability memorandum Image: DCD
Viasat, Space42 and Terrestar Solutions have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an open-standards framework connecting satellite systems and ground networks. Terrestar agreed to join the Equatys platform, which plans shared infrastructure for services connecting satellites directly to devices. The proposed framework spans Terrestar's CaStar low Earth orbit constellation, Equatys and other mobile-satellite services. It would use vendor-neutral 3GPP interfaces and GSMA roaming and interconnection frameworks while preserving each participant's infrastructure ownership and control. The architecture is designed to accommodate additional constellations, mobile operators and service providers.
