EPA registration clears spinach-peptide citrus-greening treatment
Image: Primary The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has granted unconditional registration to a citrus-greening treatment based on spinach defensin peptides, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Research. Maryland-based Silvec Biologics registered the product. The therapy uses a naturally non-transmissible citrus tristeza virus strain to prompt treated trees to produce the peptide and does not alter the tree's genome, the source says. Silvec expects Florida growers to gain access beginning in late 2026.
