IBM plans mainframe processor with native Arm and Z workloads
Image: DCD IBM plans to release a mainframe processor that can run Arm-native Linux environments alongside z/OS and Linux on IBM Z using the same cores. The company says the 11-core, 5.7GHz chip will include AI inference accelerators for in-transaction fraud detection, an on-chip data processing unit for I/O acceleration and a 3.5GB cache architecture. IBM describes it as the first processor of its kind and says workloads can operate concurrently.
