VEIR raises $110 million for superconducting data centre power systems

VEIR raises $110 million for superconducting data centre power systems Image: Primary
VEIR has raised $110 million in a Series C round co-led by Matter Venture Partners and Tyche Partners to expand manufacturing capacity and develop new products. The Massachusetts company makes superconducting power cables for AI data centres and has raised $225 million in total. Its systems combine cables with cooling equipment, controls and monitoring. Cooling the cables to very low temperatures lets them carry electricity with almost no resistance. VEIR says this delivers more power in less space than copper and reduces installation work. VEIR has demonstrated a 3-megawatt system and is moving toward its first commercial projects. It has not named the customers working with it on designs and deployments.
