Russia permits foreign data center deals subject to FSB approval

Russia permits foreign data center deals subject to FSB approval Image: DCD
Vladimir Putin issued a decree on Monday allowing Russian companies to arrange foreign data center services with permission from the Federal Security Service, DCD reported. The change follows Ukrainian drone attacks that disrupted three Yandex data centers. The decree also requires Russian data center operators to make 10 percent of their capacity available for government operations. Operators may continue using that capacity for commercial customers, but must turn the servers over to the government at 24 hours' notice. Russian companies had been banned from doing business outside the country.
