Drone strike forces Yandex data centre shutdown in Russia

Yandex main office Image: Primary
A Ukrainian drone strike caused a fire at Yandex's data centre in Sasovo, Russia, forcing the facility to shut down and disrupting services using Yandex Cloud, Tom's Hardware reported, citing Reuters and Meduza. The facility accommodates tens of thousands of servers and reportedly houses two Nvidia A100-based supercomputers used to train AI models, including YandexGPT. Yandex recommended that cloud customers use alternative zones. Corporate systems at T-Bank, Ozon and Wildberries experienced disruptions, according to Meduza, while a Moscow-region bus operator suspended online ticket sales. Yandex said its key consumer services remained operational, although users reported problems with several services. Whether the two supercomputers sustained damage remains unclear.
