Microsoft Authenticator will replace Microsoft personal account backups on Android with Google One backup starting in January 2027, Microsoft said on a support page. Users will need to enable Microsoft Authenticator in their device's Google One backup settings. The change covers backups of accounts and one-time password connections used for two-factor authentication. Authenticator generates temporary codes for signing into online accounts. Its iOS version already relies on iCloud Backup for accounts and one-time passwords.
