OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT Health feature for US users, allows medical record access

OpenAI announced Thursday it is rolling out a new ChatGPT Health feature that allows U.S. users to connect medical records and Apple Health data to the artificial intelligence chatbot. The company said the feature aims to bring together health information that people previously had to collect from hospital portals, health apps and wearable devices. OpenAI said more than 300 million people use ChatGPT every week for health-related questions, including understanding lab reports and preparing for medical appointments. The feature is available to logged-in users aged 18 and above in the U.S. on web and iOS across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans. The company said Health in ChatGPT has additional privacy and security protections. OpenAI said connected medical records and Apple Health information will not be used to train its AI models and health data will not be used for targeted advertisements. Users can disconnect their health accounts at any time, and synced data will be deleted from OpenAI's systems within 30 days. Users can connect Apple Health, supported medical records from U.S. hospital systems, One Medical or Function Health through the Health section in the ChatGPT sidebar. After connecting, users can review and update details such as medical conditions, medications and family health history.
