AWS Lambda adds configurable direct read for Amazon S3 Files

AWS said Lambda now supports direct read configuration for Amazon S3 Files, letting customers choose whether functions read from S3 Files high-performance storage or directly from their S3 bucket. Previously, direct reads from an S3 bucket were supported only for functions configured with 512 MB of memory or higher, with no customer control over the setting. Under the new option, enabling direct read routes files of 1 MB or larger straight from the S3 bucket for maximum throughput, while smaller files are served through high-performance storage; disabling it serves all reads through high-performance storage for the lowest latency. AWS said the capability is available in all commercial regions plus GovCloud US-East and US-West, excluding Asia Pacific (New Zealand), Middle East (Bahrain) and Middle East (UAE), at no additional charge beyond standard Lambda and S3 Files pricing.
