NASA convenes Artemis international partners to discuss new program architecture

NASA is bringing together the international partners in the Artemis program next week to discuss the program's new architecture. The agency has emphasized that international partners will be integral to the effort unlike in the Apollo program. Recent changes have raised questions about their roles, particularly the future of the international Gateway lunar space station. European Space Agency Director General Josef Aschbacher revealed the gathering during a press conference after the quarterly meeting of ESA's Ministerial Council. He noted that his first meeting with NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman on February 11 was constructive, positive and interesting. Aschbacher said he looks forward to learning about the new plans. Aschbacher stated that a united Europe will appear in Washington for the discussions and subsequent interactions. He added that the partners will be well prepared, will reflect among member states on new elements and will respond swiftly and proactively. ESA, the Canadian Space Agency and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency are critical Artemis members with decades of partnership with the United States on projects including the International Space Station. The United Arab Emirates recently joined as well. Gateway is the contribution that brings all partners together.
