xAI subsidiary offers home purchases tied to releases of plant claims

US-TECH-CLIMATE-ENVIRONMENT-AI-RACE Image: Primary
An xAI subsidiary is offering to buy homes in Southaven, Mississippi, in exchange for releases of claims related to its nearby plant, The Verge reported. A letter from subsidiary MZX says sellers would surrender possible damages and other relief in a residents' lawsuit, along with their ability to bring their own related claims. Three residents accuse the data center and gas-fired turbines of producing near-constant noise and vibrations. MZX denies the allegations. A realtor reportedly told a resident that xAI plans to purchase 418 homes; renters reported receiving 60 days' notice after landlords agreed to sell.
