Netherlands Approves Tesla Full Self-Driving for European Debut
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system has received regulatory approval in the Netherlands, marking the first European country to clear the driver assistance technology for public roads.

The approval comes with significant caveats. The RDW emphasized that a Tesla with FSD Supervised is "not self-driving" and that "the driver remains responsible and must always remain in control."
This regulatory milestone could pave the way for broader European adoption. The RDW noted that Tesla's approval could lead to "possible later admittance in all member states of the European Union" through mutual recognition agreements.
Tesla has been working to expand its automated driving features internationally, including to Europe and China, as outlined in a company roadmap posted in 2024. The automaker recently reduced the price of its FSD Supervised subscription to $99 per month.
The approval arrives amid ongoing scrutiny of Tesla's autonomous driving technology in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently investigating collisions involving FSD, including incidents in reduced road visibility conditions.
