ABB launches ultracapacitor system for Irish data-center grid support
Image: DCD ABB launched an ultracapacitor storage system that it says is designed to help Irish data centers meet EirGrid's MPID345 requirement for active support during grid faults. The company says the behind-the-meter platform combines ultracapacitors, grid-forming conversion, and digital control to respond in milliseconds. Under the cited requirement, large facilities must remain connected during faults and restore 90% of pre-fault demand within 500 milliseconds after voltage recovery.
